Designation:

N part of N-S wall below Wall 5

Start Date:

End Date:

Interpretation

Function:

What is left of this wall, one flimsy course, certainly is not impressive; it may be an addition to an earlier & deeper Wall 20; it seems to serve as a foundation for Wall 5, and, judging by comparative levels, etc, it seems to be what the cobble Surf 29 abuts at the base of the W side of wall 5. But that is unclear

Stratigraphy remarks:

Judging by the L 27 reading, it could be pre-Iron, LB or MB; but that evidence is scanty; if indeed it is the other side of this wall, Wall 21, that the cobble Surf 29 runs up to, the MB reading for L 26 above the cobbles would be consistent with the poss MB reading from L 27 on its other, E side
