Interpretation
Function:
One wall of the 3-sided domestic structure formed by Walls 5, 7, & 8; many domestic artifacts; the walls prob enclosed an interior space, & Surfs 16 & 6 & Installation 15 seal against Walls 5 & 8; prob outside surfaces; no surface was found insided the "room"; it was filled with L 4 tumble; Wall 8 is bonded to 7 at 8's S end; there are some problems here with the phasing of Wall 7, & it is not clear if 8 was bonded to the early phase of 7B, or the later phase (A); there may have been some rearranging of stones when phase A of 7 was built; see Wall 7 for more discussion
Stratigraphy remarks:
Wall 8 abuts Wall 5 at 8's N end, so may have been a later addition to 5, or simply may not have been bonded to 5 when built; no FT was found for 8, but it sits almost directly on bedrock at its N end; it may have been laid down on existing surfaces at its S end, though no clear evidence for this was found; Surf 16 & prob Installation 15 sealed against 8, so were prob in use with the structure found by Wallls 5, 7 & 8
