Interpretation

Function Locus 9 is made up of fine soil located in F#27. The soil was possibly filled in at a later date than the two compact layers (Locus 7 and 8) and may be a pit of some kind. The area may have been used for storage and later filled in after use was discontinued.

Stratigraphy remarks It is under Locus 5 and over Locus 4 (bedrock). It seals against Locus 6 (the wall) giving it a later date the wall's construction. A probable date for the layer is IR2, indicated by pottery readings and relation to other loci.
