Interpretation

Function Covers approx 2/3 of the square, sloping from S to N; wall-like structure (L 16) was built on a thin layer of earth (L 8) covering bedrock; seems to have been used as a base at one point, evidenced by 2 holes (mortars) in Loca 28; these were prob present before the wall was built, having been filled with L 8
Stratigraphy remarks Slopes down toward the N, ending at what seems to be a pit, located at Loca 7, 8, 9 & poss further, filled with very fine earth (L 12); covers the entire bottom of square, the N half being under Surf 13 with a portion under L 15, poss being used as a grinding base
