Interpretation

Function E wall of the broadroom of House A, bounded by Walls 9 on N, 11 on E, 22 on W, & 27 on S; W wall of paved room with standing stone, extending into 7K80
Stratigraphy remarks All loci seem to be later than Wall 11; it seems to have been forgotten or ignored after its disuse by destruction; walls & surfaces were built on 11 without taking advantage of it as a foundation or divider; Wall 19 abuts it on E; L 19 is oven- & sun-baked mudbrick destruction; contemporary with Walls 9 & 37, making it related to the rooms to E; contemporory with or later than cobble Surf 36 which it overlays on its E face; the founding level was just below the floor surface for the broadroom & was laid at the same level as Wall 9 at the east end

Remarks:

Nearly parallel with Perimeter Wall 22; partially in balk; extends across square to 0.65m from S balk where it ends at door jamb; in S the upper 3 courses are baked to lime in fire, broken, & badly damaged; 6-10 courses preserved above surface; stone tumble in L 29, 30, 31 may come largely from this wall; appears to have had brick superstructure, collapsed eastward into paved room; may have had traces of mud plaster on E face; several courses of badly burned , calcinated & damaged stoned removed at S end; founding level was only reached in probe area
