Function:
E and W casemate wall with walls 11, 22 and 27 of room. A defense wall of some type. 1994: Wall 9 was a connecting wall between the two parallel walls thus forming a casemate wall system.
Stratigraphy remarks:
Earliest phase found this season. Bonds with 11. After its disuse, through destruction or whatever, appears to be ignored or forgotten. In later loci walls 9 may have been robbed out. Appears to connect with 22.Tumble in 8 appears to come, partially at least, from 9: the six-sided worked stones may have been 9's facing. In 1989 season, determined to be part of casemate room (in wall) bounded also by walls 22 (on north), 11 (E) and 27 (S). Tumble in L.29, 30 and 31 may come partially from this wall. 1994: Wall 9 (at the east end) was founded at the same level as wall 11.
