Interpretation

Function Prob part of the LIR2/P rampart reuse; apparently man made as a lower part of a complex defense system; some stones were incorporated in the layer, but they were scarce when compared with the locus above; the small amounts of IR2 pottery may suggest this was actually to top of the EIR1 rampart
Stratigraphy remarks Rather consistent in everyway in its relationship to L 3 (& 4 where present) above, & L 6 beneath, except in the SE corner where erosion had apparently removed much it

Remarks:

Brick detritus laid down at a more or less consistent angle & tamped to a very hard surface with a 33 degree slope; direction of slope varies from about 300-310 degrees; color changes in some areas at NW corner to 10YR 4/6 dark yellowish brown; in Loca 26 it consisted of a yellowish layer between two bands of white fading out in Loca 25
