Remarks

Remarks:

Appears to be the bottom layer in the area between the main rampart retaining wall and the outer, later retaining wall; the fill between the two walls is laid on in clear alternating courses of limestone & earth; Wall 9 rounds over at the top to join Retaining Wall 6; below that a layer of earth followed by limestone L 7, folowed by L 8, followed by limestone 10, followed by earth 11; the lower layers (8, 11) show signs of burning--charred rocks, bits of charcoal--as though the inhabitants had learned of the inadequacies of the rampart wall through hard experience and sought to shore up their defense system
