Interpretation

Function:

Poss a surface, may be just an exposure surface made through seasonal use; doesn't seem to be the surface that could be called a floor; poss a walkway between the 2 walls or maybe a dead end street (accounting for a large amount of pottery and cobbles found at the W end) which had a dump at the end

Stratigraphy remarks:

Equal to L 10 in the probe; the same kind of hard packed mostly clay consistence; beneath, on the W side is L 14 which is a softer darker soil filled with sherds, bones, & tumble; over L 16 on the E (assigned arbitrarily for the soil has not really changed)

Pottery appears less freq as diggin deepens; the larger rocks were on the surface; the sm-lg pebbles in two distinct areas occured directly under the 5 cm surface layer; soil is hard packed clay with spots of brick material, nari flakes, charcoal chips, burnt nari and burnt clay
